The GT40 MKI has long been established as one of Ford Motor Company’s proudest developments, with the iconic driving machine becoming the second chassis to ever win the 24 Hours of Le Mans more than once with consecutive victories in 1968 and 1969. In an homage to the vehicle that famously contested Ferrari’s dominance at Le Mans, Downforce Motorsports is proud to introduce the Superformance 1969 GT40 MKI Extra Widebody powered by an incredible all-new 580 horsepower Aluminator engine.
“The GT40 MKI is one of Ford Motor Company’s greatest achievements and holds a heralded place in the hearts of automotive enthusiasts and racing fans alike. While we maintained all the celebrated vintage components that made the GT40 MKI so revolutionary, our team also integrated several modern upgrades to make this phenomenal machine into a vehicle that can be tracked or just as easily driven out on the open road,” comments Dan Long, President of Downforce Motorsports. “Having the opportunity to expand this vehicle’s legendary automotive legacy is an absolute honor, and we’re excited to introduce the new Aluminator-powered GT40.”
No GT40 is as iconic as the infamous P1075 chassis, the car that made history with back-to-back 24 Hours of Le Mans victories. This GT40’s unmistakable blue and orange Gulf-patterned livery is amongst the boldest paint schemes in the history of racing, which led to the inspiration for the Superformance colorway for this GT40 MKI.
Dubbed chassis P2348, this Superformance build is intricately modeled after the famous Le Mans winner, down to the vehicle’s extra wide rear clam shell that houses massive amounts of rear tire. Other period-correct features in this timeless driving machine include an original steel monocoque chassis, the original suspension, and the official “P” chassis number that the original vehicles sported. Unlike the original vehicle from 1969, the Superformance GT40 is complete with air conditioning, heating and even radio capabilities, while also having a vastly upgraded powerplant.
Power comes from a Ford Performance 5.2 Aluminator engine that’s capable of producing more than 580 horsepower. The 5.2 Aluminator can bolt to 8500 rpm’s but idle at 750, which makes the GT40 a truly unique driving experience. Drivers get both a “pro-touring” GT40 with all of the iconic lines and styling of the legendary MKI, but also the performance and driving experience of a modern sports car.
Built by Olthoff Racing and exclusively available through Downforce Motorsports, the new Aluminator series of Superformance vehicles establishes a groundbreaking blend of old school style and modern-day technology.
This Superformance 1969 GT40 MKI Extra Widebody with the iconic Gulf Livery exterior is available for $225,000 from Downforce Motorsports.
