Prepping Your RV for Winter Hibernation

February 23, 2021 By Gauge Magazine

winterizing the RVThe end of summer months also means you are not going for camping – at least for some time. But that’s fine. Every person needs a break in between, and your RV is no different. Besides, you already got the task of snow-shoveling and shopping in between that you’ll be doing; you won’t get a second to think about camping.

But if you are considering returning to a smoothly-running and fresh springtime season, it’s essential to take some of the steps Prepping Your RV for Winter Hibernation. Here are some of the ideas and tips to store RV for your trailer or motorhome seasonal siesta.

Why is winterizing the RV essential?

The first thing to consider when Prepping Your RV for Winter Hibernation: is it necessary and essential to winterizing the RV? And what is it, anyway?

The answer to the first question is simple; if you are residing in the area where the temperature drops below the freezing point, and you park the rig outdoors, you need to do the winterization. By doing this, you’ll keep the RV safe with everything in the right working condition and working when you are ready to take out on your next ride.

Obviously, looking for long-term indoor, heated RV storage is the right solution to ensure your rig gets away from the coldest months. But this can be impossible for most RV owners, which makes winterization essential.

How to winterize the RV?

Would you like to know the best way to winterize your RV? It’s not that challenging. In fact, it doesn’t need many supplies.

First, you’ll have to get the RV antifreeze. When used and diluted correctly, the product will help to keep the bursting away from pipes all the way, temperature getting down below -40 degrees Fahrenheit, and it’s entirely biodegradable, non-toxic and simple to use.

Before using the antifreeze, it is better to immaculate and drain out your RV’s water tank product, including wastewater and freshwater tanks. The RV blowout plug can be used to start RVs water lines to blow so that everything gets cleaned and ready to go.

During this stage, you can let the RV antifreeze enter inside the water system. Circulate it under the entire system by using the external hand pump or existing RV water pump – but remember, if you use the existing one, purchase the bypass kit, as you wouldn’t want the antifreeze to enter the freshwater tank. You can also use the kit to bypass your warm water heater.

Be tension-free as your winterization process is over. However, if you are not considering storing your RV outdoors, some other essential steps need to be covered before covering it.

You would also have to remove RV batteries and get them inside so they don’t freeze, as cold temperatures can lead to battery failure.

It doesn’t matter if it’s winter or not; some of the essential things always need to be kept in mind while taking care of the RV. Keep the interiors of the RV as clean as possible, and you are good to ride. these are the essential steps when Prepping Your RV for Winter Hibernation
