Spring Maintenance Tips for the Car

May 21, 2021 By Gauge Magazine

Spring MaintenanceAs we head deeper into spring and the rain starts to fall a little heavier, the snow and ice begin to melt, and the roads get a little more challenging to navigate. You want your car to be up to speed and in shape during the rainy season, and ready for the summer this all starts with good spring maintenance.

Even when you love your car and take pride in how much work you put into it, it’s easy to forget to do thorough seasonal spring maintenance checks. Take a look at these spring maintenance service tips for your car.

Check the Fluids

When you start your spring car clean-up, checking the fluids should be at the top of your spring maintenance list. Look at the brakes, steering, transmission, windshield washer fluids, and coolant. Replace any empty fluids and top up any that are low or flush. Review your car owner’s manual to see what type they recommend.

Inspect Your Steering and Suspension

Due to all of the thawing occurring in the spring, potholes are something to consider right now. When you hit such obstructions, they can damage your vehicle’s suspension and steering. Is your steering pulling to one side? If so, it could imply that your car is out of alignment or that it’s riding rough and might have suspension issues.

If you think that your car is experiencing these problems, bring it to your trusted mechanic. They’ll determine what the problem is and get you back on track.

Change the Oil and Filters

As an auto enthusiast, you’ll know that regular filter and oil changes are critical to maintaining a healthy engine. Oil is essential for picking up impurities as it cools and lubricates your engine. However, as the oil ages, it becomes significantly less effective. Failing to change your engine oil can result in higher fuel consumption, low engine performance, and could also cause severe engine damage.

Repair Any Dents

Over the winter months, your car may have experienced some minor fender-benders or accidents. There may be a few dents that need to be taken care of and what better time of year to do precisely that than in the spring?

If you’re on a budget, consider paintless dent repair — something you can do yourself without having to take an expensive trip into the body shop. This will help your car look its finest, and it will also help hold its value, which is crucial if you’re thinking of selling or trading it in the near future.

Maintenance for Free

Getting a full maintenance check can often be a costly endeavour. Did you know that there are incredible auto contests posted online every day? For example, Princess Auto online contests are available to enter right now, consisting of some fantastic prizes for any vehicle owner. Princess Auto is currently offering a $500 gift card this year. Check it out before the online contest ends!

Make sure your car is in tip-top shape before the summer season arrives. Soon you’ll be cruising with the windows down with that sweet, sunny breeze flowing through your hair.
