The 1951 Chevy 5 Window: A Heartfelt Gift of a Lifetime
When it comes to building classic vehicles, blood, sweat, and tears are usually poured into the process. But for John Rabe Sr., this 1951 Chevy 5 Window build had a much deeper meaning. It was built almost completely by his son’s team at Sky High Car Audio as a surprise 70th birthday present, making it a true gift of a lifetime.
From finding the perfect 1951 Chevy 5 Window to completing the build in just four months with four people working 12 hours a day, this ride is a testament to the power of hard work and love. The team at Sky High Car Audio went above and beyond with this build, clocking in over 2,000 man hours to make the dream a reality.
But it’s not just the backstory that makes this Chevy 5 Window so special. The vehicle itself is a true work of art. The Corvette LS1 engine boasts large aluminum radiators, stainless headers, and a full custom exhaust with an X-pipe. It’s powered by a Holley Terminator X system and chrome accessories.
The chassis is equally impressive, with a full boxed frame, back halved design, custom notch, and a 4-link suspension with coilovers. The front has a coilover IFS set up and power steering conversion with 13.8″ Wilwoods up front. The back has a 4-link with coilovers and a panhard bar, all made in-house.
The paint job is nothing short of stunning, with a Lamborghini orange over a white base that has green and gold pearl accents. There’s a special meaning behind the color choice, too. It matches the Chevy Racing Red color of John Rabe Sr.’s first car, a ’56 Nomad.
Inside, the TMI seats, steering wheel, headliner, sun visors, and door panels are in distressed leather. The proximity sensor ignition system is keyless, and the custom laser battery cover is a unique touch. The dash has a stock look but brings modern resto mod feel home. With AC, heat, and a custom audio system with Sky High wiring, this Chevy 5 Window has everything you could want in a classic ride.
Overall, this 1951 Chevy 5 Window is a true labor of love that showcases the incredible bond between a father and son. It’s an inspirational story of how hard work and dedication can create something truly remarkable.
