The third edition of the Big Mike Mendenhall Memorial Car Show, coinciding with The Hoosier Vintage Wheels Swap Meet, was held on May 21, 2023, at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Franklin, Indiana. Despite the challenge of inclement weather, the show was a resounding success. The event’s primary objective was to raise funds for a scholarship and to make charitable donations in Big Mike’s honor. This gathering, filled with friends showcasing their vehicles and exploring the swap meet, perfectly embodied the spirit of camaraderie and community that Big Mike cherished.
The ethos behind this event is rooted in the belief that the memory of a person lives on as long as their name continues to be spoken. This car show, therefore, serves as a tribute to Big Mike’s enduring impact on many lives. In keeping with this sentiment and to further honor his legacy, a significant announcement was made regarding a change in the event’s name to ‘The Big Mike and Friends Show’. This renaming aims to emphasize the communal aspect of the event, encouraging attendees to not only enjoy the show but also collaborate in assisting those in need. The funds raised through the auction are set to be allocated to charities, with the specifics to be decided through attendee participation, details of which will be shared later.
Acknowledgments were extended to all those who supported the event – the attendees, the Mendenhall family, Scott Willis and The Hoosier Vintage Wheels team for providing the venue, the sponsors for their financial support and unique trophies, and the dedicated staff whose efforts make the event increasingly seamless each year.
Looking ahead, the Big Mike and Friends Show 2024 is scheduled for May 18th at the same location. The invitation extends to all to join in this celebration of Big Mike’s legacy and to continue his tradition of lending a helping hand.
