What was the inspiration?
I have alway Loved Custom cars and been working on them since I was a Young Boy. I have dremt of this Mercury build for many many years. I saw George barris and many other customs and have gone to so many car show I can not even count. If I saw a mod I likes I would note it and dream about hom My car would one day look. I had the chance to by a Merc in the 70's and jumped on it knowing it would take years to be what I really wanted I was ok with that. I would do on Vacation searching junk yards for just the right parts to use to build my car. after many years of collecting I finally started building the car of my dreams. I started doing as many of the mods as I could by myself and then got lucky and Won a Chop job by the Titus Brother at the Show in Brandson MO.
How long did it take you to build?
after the Chop was done it still needed all the body work and the rest of the body mods done so at that point I had to wait and save up my money for the rest. so years later I contacted The Custom Shop in Flanagan Il to finish building the Car of my Dreams.
How long have you been building?
I contacted John Wargo the Owner and told him all about my Vision for the car. I have know John and The Custom SHop team for year a they built me a 1954 Custom Chevy Convertible Years ago and I still drive it today. Once John had all my Info he did a Rendering of the Merc for me. It was so amazing to see th art work he did on the rendering to show me. This was the Fist time I have really seen what all my body mods and Custom paint Job that John designed all looked like I was Floored. At this point The Custom Shop Team Got Started and John Took me in as a New Guy at the Custom shop So I got the Help build the Car of my Dream and got a New Job all at the Same time. Next John Got me and the Team Started on the Merc. Word got around and John was talking to Prospray paint company and they Were interested in having the Merc at sema bt that is only 4 months away and the Merc was only in Raw Metal. So that means everyone at the Custom Shop had to go into Overdrive mod. But John Liking a Challenge said It will be there and Be Done you can Count on it. So we starting working over time on the Merc. Lots of Welding Cutting and Body work was going on. the Team at the Custom Shop pulled off a Miracle and in only 2 months had it all ready for paint and int. But not done yet. befor paint John and the Guys figured ot how theywanted the int. done and I had already collected 65 Tbird seats so we Modified the T Bird seat to Fit the Merc and made all the custom fiber glass panels so it looks Like stock. We then started Cover all the panels in Enduratex material Then Glen Deno Stitched up the Custom seat that John Designed for it too.
The Custom Shop also Designed a Killer SOny Audio and Video system for the Merc with Dual Side View Cameras and Dual Sony TV monitors. We pulled my Custom bumpers off and shipped them to Keystone Plating to get them Chromed and Looking better then new so we would have them back when the car was done.
Your future plans?
Tons of Car Show and Miles on my Dream car "Fade Master"
Vehicle history
once car was ready it hit the paint Booth at The Custom Shop where John Wargo has been know to do His magic. I told john I love the rendering so it if looks anything Like this you will be the Fade Master. so as John Was fading and Blending 9 Colors all around the Merc the name "Fade Master" Just Stuck. so from then on my 1951 Merc Became know as " Fade Master". John laid down the ProSpray paint so good like looks the all the colors just Melt together you can not tell where one stops and the other starts itlooks like there is 100 colors all blended together. then he laid down a Flames Job on top of that that will blow your mind. I never drempt in a million years my car could ever look so Cool. next John Laid down Dropped Shadows with a Badger Vega 2000 airbrush and the 3D effect is Mind blowing. 5 Coats of Prospray Clearcoat was Sprayed on with his Sata Spray Gun to Finish it off. after we pulled it out of the booth the Colors where so Vivid we were one step closer to Sema and my Dream car being finished. Billet Specilties wheels kind of look like hubcaps with a White wall tire help keep the old school look but with a High end style. so next we used Ride Rite air bags and controls to lay my Merc on the ground. So John knowing I like the old school he saw the Holley offed a New 3 Duece setup and we upgraded the Small Block chevy with a New Holley TriPower and new dressup kit as well. Hedman Headers and dressupkit helped the SBC look like new under the hood. Te The Custom shop had one more trick. Under the hood was all paneled out and John did a Custom Pinstriped Glowing Flame design so it looks like they are glowing under the hood and added LED to light it up at night to.Odyssey battery keeo my LED and Sony system playing at the Cruisin' We installed a Painless Wiring harness and Digital Dakato Gauges while we were installing the INt. for the final time. ACC carpet was laid and Llyod custom floor mats finished it out. We made Billet insert fro the Sony audio and Motorized the trunk lid and Did Door poppers from Spal . the Modern Headlights at JW Speakers and Light up the Road Like you can not Believe. I plan on Driving this Merc to so many Show Im sure you will see it some place. Lots of Smile and Pic have been takin already and We plan one about a Million More Thanks to all that Helped make my Dream come true and to all of the Team at The Custom Shop for Having the Skills, vision and Talent to Pull it off.
