XPEL – a leading supplier of automotive paint protection and window films – established a new world record on Sunday, July 29th in Charlotte, NC. Working closely with the Guinness World Records certification body, a target was set and XPEL was able to significantly exceed its goals thanks to a dedicated team of window tint installers from Sun Stoppers Window Tinting.
Since Guinness World Records had no existing category for window tinting records, they established new criteria that would need to be met:
- The record would be for the most vehicle windows tinted in 8 hours
- There was no limit on the number of people who could attempt the record
- For the purpose of the record, window tinting was defined as applying a film to darken or change the color of the glass, without replacing the glass
- A total of 300 windows would have to be tinted to warrant certification
- To qualify, only full windows were counted – quarter lights not be counted in the total
Armed with this information, XPEL worked closely with Sun Stoppers Window Tinting, which has 11 retail locations in the Carolinas and Massachusetts. It is one of the largest retailers on the East Coast for window tint and paint protection film.
With XPEL providing the tint film and Sun Stoppers bringing the muscle, the final component in the venture was cars. The majority would be provided by Town & Country Ford in Charlotte, North Carolina, which supplied more than 100 vehicles including sedans, trucks and SUVs.
Additionally, XPEL and Sun Stoppers contacted local Charlotte car enthusiasts, including Tuner Theory and Charlotte Cars & Coffee, inviting members to participate free of charge. A total of 60 local cars were selected to participate in the record attempt and their support is gratefully acknowledged.
RECORD BREAKERS
The Guinness World Records attempt began promptly at 9am on July 29, 2018. Two rows of cars and truck were positioned in the two service bays at Town & Country Ford. Twelve cars at a time were rotated through the bays as the installation teams raced through their work. Throughout the attempt there were always 20 Sun Stopper installers working on the vehicles while another ten staff prepared the vehicles.
The record was completed by 3:30PM, with local YouTube celebrity SaabKyle04 receiving the honor of being the final car to be tinted. With the target set by Guinness World Records, the XPEL and Sun Stoppers team smashed through the 300 window barrier and tinted a total of 438 windows on 170 cars in the allotted eight-hour period.
For XPEL, it equated to more than $50,000 in product installed on the day. To ensure the work went without a hitch, the Sun Stoppers team used the top tier XPEL PRIME™ XR PLUS window tint film. This is a proprietary blend of ceramic particle technology, which provides SPF 1000 protection for vehicle interiors and blocks 98% of infrared heat. XPEL PRIME XR PLUS shields passengers from harmful UV rays and prevents the vehicle interior from cracking or fading. Furthermore, the window tint film provides a flawless appearance and visual clarity, outperforming all other films including dyed, hybrid and competitor nano-ceramic films.
“Today was such a great experience and just adds to the level of respect I have for XPEL as an organization. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and we are so grateful for the amazing support and partnership we have with the entire XPEL team”, said Mike Burke Founder/Owner of Sun Stoppers Window Tint. I used to be a dealer / installer for a competitor product, once I started working with the XPEL products I made the switch and it has been great for my business as well as my customers. We’re confident in the quality of their products and being a part of a company that supports it’s dealer like this World Record Attempt just seals the deal for me.”
FESTIVITIES
While the important record-breaking work was happening inside, car owners and visitors were able to enjoy a car show featuring many of the supercars and exotics that would be worked on during the day.
A number of food trucks were provided for guests while a local radio station provided entertainment throughout the day. And most critically, following the completion of the final car, the adjudicator from Guinness World Records presented the official World Record certificate to XPEL and Sun Stoppers.
Following this success, XPEL is seeking to break further records in the realm of window tint and paint protection film. For more information about its world-class products, please visit: www.xpel.com
