Robby Woods Doubles Down With
Two LOORS Podium Finishes In Las Vegas
The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORS) started the 2010 season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It was here, just eight months ago, that Robby Woods suffered a spectacular crash in LOORS’ second race of the season. In his triumphant return to Las Vegas last weekend for Rounds 13 and 14 of racing, the outcome was quite different for the Nevada native.
Woods started on the front row of Saturday’s race after qualifying fifth in the No. 99 Lucas Slick Mist / Superchips Chevrolet. Like he was shot from a cannon, Robby jumped out for an early lead and never looked back. Carl Renezeder was pushing Woods throughout the race but unable to capitalize… until the last lap. With a suspension tuned for dry, hard conditions, excessive body roll caused Woods truck to bicycle on the last turn. While he had the presence of mind to save the truck, Renezeder snuck past Woods and beat him by less than one second!!!
Sunday saw Robby starting on the third row, with more traffic to work through. He ran much of the race in fifth place out of 17 Pro2 Unlimited trucks, despite ignition issues on the sixth lap that required quick thinking on the part of Woods. He switched the ignition and passed Rodrigo Ampudia on the next lap in exactly the same corner where Renezeder had passed him on the previous day, narrowly edging out Ampudia in mid-air prior to the mandatory yellow flag. The second half of the race saw Woods battle with some of the biggest names in short course racing, and come out on top. Despite fuel pressure issues that caused his 800-horsepower truck to lose power intermittently, Robby managed to fend off motocross legend Brian Deegan to finish in third place, making two podium appearances in as many days.
Robby Woods and his crew will now prepare the No. 99 Lucas Slick Mist / Superchips Chevrolet for the season finale in Phoenix on December 11th and the $30,000 Lucas Oil Off Road Cup on December 12th. In the meantime, look to CBS Sports and the Speed Channel for full coverage of Robby Woods and all of this weekend’s LOORS racing action in Las Vegas.
