What to Do While Waiting for Your Tow Truck

It’s important to remember that you are not alone. There are plenty of people who have gone through this same experience. And, more importantly, there are ways to stay safe while you wait for your tow truck.

In this blog post, we will discuss some tips for roadside safety. Stay calm and follow these tips, and you’ll be on your way to getting back on the road in no time!

Assess the Situation

On some occasions you may need a tow truck due to break down and on other occasions it may be due to an accident. No matter the case, it’s important that you assess the situation and plan your next steps accordingly. In the event of an accident the priority should always be the health and wellbeing of all those involved. Next you may need to consider getting the police or local authorities involved. If the accident is blocking the road or causing a danger to other motorists then you will need to take action. Once you have taken care of these initial steps, you can focus on what to do next.

Move to a Safe Place

If you’re able to do so, move your vehicle off to the side of the road or another safe place. This will help to keep you and your vehicle safe from oncoming traffic. If you’re unable to move your vehicle, turn on your hazard lights to warn other drivers. If your vehicle can’t be move, you should assess the situation and move yourself to a safe place outside the vehicle when it is safe to do so.

Select the Right Towing Company

Not all towing trucks and towing services are the same. The type of vehicle you are driving plays a big part in what towing company might be best suited to you. It’s important to find a tow truck that is right for vehicle and is local for you.  If you’re driving a large truck or bus, you’ll want to find a tow truck that can accommodate your heavy vehicle. Similarly, if you’re driving a hot rod or luxury imported car, you’ll want to make sure the tow truck company has the right equipment to transport your vehicle without causing any damage.

When in doubt, always err on the side of caution and go with a tow truck company that has a good reputation and is properly insured. If your vehicle is insured, your policy may include towing however they may wish decide which company you use, so check with your insurer what to do. This will give you peace of mind knowing that your vehicle is in good hands.

Stay with Your Vehicle

Once you’ve moved to a safe place, it’s important that you stay with your vehicle. This may seem like an obvious tip, but you’d be surprised how many people abandon their vehicles after breaking down. If you stay with your vehicle, tow truck drivers will be able to easily find you when they arrive.

Keep a Roadside Emergency Kit in Your Vehicle

If you don’t already have one, it’s a good idea to keep a roadside emergency kit in your vehicle. This kit should include items like flares in you travel in remote regions, a first-aid kit, jumper cables, and a flashlight. Having this kit in your vehicle will help you be prepared for any situation.

Be Cautious of Strangers

If you do find yourself stranded on the side of the road, it’s important to be cautious of strangers who may stop to help you. If you don’t feel comfortable accepting help from a stranger, it’s best to politely decline and wait for your tow truck to arrive.

No matter how well you plan, sometimes things happen that are out of your control. That’s why it’s always a good idea to be prepared for the unexpected. By following these tips, you can help ensure your safety while waiting for your tow truck to arrive.
