LAS VEGAS – Barrett-Jackson, “The World’s Greatest Collector Car AuctionsTM” will bring the excitement of Rock-n-Roll to the auction block during its Las Vegas auction Sept. 25 – 27, at the Mandalay Bay Event Center. The predominantly No Reserve auction will include Elvis Presley’s ’67 Cadillac Coupe de Ville (Lot #767) and the ’63 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window Coupe (Lot #767.1) made famous in “Viva Las Vegas”, along with Johnny Cash’s ’70 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow (Lot #766). Live coverage of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Las Vegas will be broadcast on the FOX family of networks and National Geographic during the channels’ 24 hours of live, high definition TV coverage on Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 25 – 27.
“Las Vegas has a deep connection to many of the most celebrated rock-n-roll legends of our time,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “It’s only fitting that we have a few of the cars from the biggest names in the music industry represented on our Vegas auction block.”
Elvis Presley’s ’67 Cadillac Coupe De Ville (Lot #767)
Also known as “The Honeymoon Cadillac”, this red Coupe de Ville was purchased by Elvis Presley on September 15, 1967. The music legend and his wife, Priscilla, were often seen driving it around Memphis and to his Circle G Ranch shortly after they were married.
The car has been a part of Mike L. Moon’s private collection since 1979; it was displayed at the Elvis Presley Museums in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and Niagara Falls, Canada. Documentation includes copies of the original Bill of Sale and title, as well as the original Protect-O-Plate showing the name Elvis Presley and listing the address of Graceland. Also included are newspaper clippings and a copy of the book “Hurry Home Elvis” in which the Cadillac is mentioned.
’63 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window Coupe (Lot #767.1)
Originally owned by Harry Mann, the largest Corvette dealer in America in the 1960s, and driven by Gary Pickens, this Split Window Corvette was raced throughout California in 1963. MGM rented the car for the filming of the feature film “Viva Las Vegas” starring Elvis Presley. The producers needed real race cars for the movie’s climactic racing, which features famous spinout. That is when the car received the only racing damage of its career, hitting the rear clip without damaging the frame or any other fiberglass.
The car remained secreted until 2011, when Corvette specialist Mike Scott and restorer Gary Nabers completed a thorough, no-expense-spared restoration to qualify it for the national Corvette Restorers Society American Heritage Award.
Johnny Cash’s ’70 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow (Lot #766)
Originally ordered and purchased by ABC Television Network as a gift for Johnny Cash, this ’70 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow includes “build to order” specifications with factory provided “JRC” initials in gold on the rear doors, Tennessee registration, Schoellkopf Card and published references to Johnny Cash ownership. The Rolls was purchased from Johnny Cash in 1985-1986 and has been in private ownership since.
“You really can’t get more ‘rock-n’roll’ than Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Las Vegas,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “We’re very excited to have three amazing celebrity vehicles ready to cross our auction block at the Mandalay Bay in September. Collectively they represent the high level of fun and energy that Barrett-Jackson brings to every city that hosts our auctions.”
