How Many SUVs Does Jeep Make?

May 25, 2022 By Gauge Magazine

SUVs For those who have been keeping score, there’s no question that Jeep has been arguably the most instrumental brand in the progression of SUVs as a vehicle class. They introduced the world to the Willys in WWII, and the Jeep Cherokee is generally credited as the first modern SUV in the way we know them today, all the way back in 1984.

Due to their credentials, Jeep should be considered a go-to source for understanding the current state of the SUV landscape. Having grown its offerings considerably over the years to now feature a whole lineup of SUVs, Jeep knows how to keep things rugged no matter the model line.

The number of SUVs Jeep makes can vary based on your interpretation of their lineup. For our purposes here, we’re separating Grand Cherokee into its own class. This means Jeep has six distinct SUV models to its name. Let’s look at what makes each of them unique.

Cherokee

As previously noted, the Cherokee is really what started it all—not just for the Jeep SUV, but SUV as a vehicle class. The Cherokee has been and remains the staple player Jeep’s stable of SUVs.

Grand Cherokee

While the Cherokee came first, some might say the Grand Cherokee has made just as big of a splash in its own way. From its first introduction to the world, driving up concrete stairs and crashing through a huge pane of glass, it was clear the Jeep Grand Cherokee was different.

From that moment on, the Grand Cherokee has represented the best of the luxury SUV world. Its iconic blend of performance and comfort has made this one of the most popular vehicles around for decades.

Compass

The Compass takes all the great aspects of being a Jeep and gives them a little extra style and sophistication, while still remaining playful. This is the perfect SUV for those who spend most of their time doing normal day-to-day tasks, but still want to be able to go on adventures. With ample safety features and an appealing design, the Compass checks all the right boxes for being a great SUV.

Renegade

The most economic of Jeep’s SUVs, the Renegade stays true to the Jeep name while delivering a fun, versatile driving experience. Even if scaling foothills isn’t your norm, it’s always an option when you’re behind the wheel of a Renegade.

Wagoneer

The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are two storied SUV model lines that many will remember from years past. These beloved brands have just made their comeback, with brand new model lines. Bringing the Wagoneer concept into the 21st century, Jeep has created a vehicle that embodies the best of performance and luxury. A wide array of features and best-in-class performance make the Jeep Wagoneer a great option for many seeking a large SUV.

Wrangler

Finally, no conversation can really be complete without mentioning the Wrangler somewhere in there. While it’s tough to even categorize the Wrangler as an SUV, it technically falls into this realm. There’s nothing quite like the Wrangler on the road. It’s iconic, modular design makes it both cool and practical. Those who want a driving experience like no other, complete with a community of people who also love their vehicles, will fit right in as a Wrangler owner.

Jeep has been instrumental in the development of the SUV vehicle class. Over time, their vehicles have changed, but the methodology and results have largely been the same: quality, rugged SUVs that can handle whatever you throw their way.
