1960 Cadillac Series 62

Owned by: Frank Sliva

In the world of custom cars, every vehicle has a story, and this mid-90s Cadillac is no exception. Owned by Frank Sliva in Mooresville, Indiana, this Caddy represents a dream turned reality, a testament to the passion and creativity that defines the custom car culture. From its origins in the 90s to its present-day accolades, this Cadillac has seen transformations, multiple owners, and even a TV appearance. Hereโ€™s the story of a classic thatโ€™s been brought back to life.

A History of Ownership and Transformation

After building the Cadillac, Rick Corona enlisted in the military, and the car found its way to new owners. It first surfaced in Las Vegas, under the ownership of Chris Tromba. The Cadillac caught the attention of *Counts Kustoms*, appearing in Season 3, Episode 9, where it was featured but underwent no modifications. However, its fame grew as Danny, a personality from the show, invited Chris to park the Cadillac in front of his bar, attracting crowds and turning heads.

The Cadillac was later sold to Chuck Darnell of Quincy, IL. Under Chuck’s ownership, the car received significant upgrades, including a new engine and an airbag makeover. In 2022, Chuck installed a 5.7 GM Crate Motor equipped with Holley Sniper Fuel Injection and Vintage Air, providing the Cadillac with the power and reliability it deserved. The suspension was also upgraded with an Air Lift Kit, making it a perfect blend of classic style and modern functionality.

Eventually, the Cadillac made its way to Indiana, where the current owner, Frank Sliva, a self-proclaimed muscle car enthusiast, couldnโ€™t resist its charm. โ€œIโ€™m a muscle car guy, but once I set my eyes on the Caddy, I had to have it,โ€ he says. The car’s allure was undeniable, and it became a cherished addition to his collection.

This Cadillac isnโ€™t just a garage queenโ€”itโ€™s built to be driven. The current owner drives it everywhere, showcasing its style and performance on the road. The car even made a notable appearance at Slamology 2024, one of the largest automotive events, thanks to an invitation from Indiana Auto Spaโ€™s owner, Tom Poland, and detailer Dustin Manuel. The Cadillac impressed judges and attendees alike, earning a well-deserved second-place trophy.

Technical Specs and Customizations

– Engine: The Cadillac is powered by a 5.7 GM Crate Motor, installed in 2022, featuring Holley Sniper Fuel Injection and a Vintage Air system. The powertrain and airbag upgrades were carried out by Chuck Darnell. – Transmission: Equipped with a factory 700R4 transmission, ensuring smooth gear transitions. – Suspension: The car features an Air Lift Kit with FOX shocks in both the front and rear, allowing for adjustable ride height and comfort. – Wheels and Tires: Classic steel wheels from 1955 with hub caps and Cooper WW 235/15 tires on both front and rear, maintaining a vintage look. – Paint and Body: The Cadillac boasts a striking black paint job with flake and scallop designs, originally painted by Rick Corona. The trim has been selectively removed for a sleeker appearance, and the pinstipping, done in the 90s, adds a retro flair. – Interior: The interior is a nod to classic luxury with blood-red tucked and rolled upholstery, completed by Rick Coronaโ€™s uncle. The dashboard is a custom fiberglass piece, while the car features an aftermarket steering wheel and a homemade console.

The journey of this Cadillac wouldn’t have been possible without the contributions of its previous owners. Rick Corona, the visionary behind the original build, Chris Tromba, who brought the car to the limelight, and Chuck Darnell, who modernized its performance and aesthetics, all played crucial roles. As for the future, the current owner plans to โ€œdrive the wheels off it,โ€ enjoying every mile and making new memories along the way.

This mid-90s Cadillac is more than just a car; it’s a piece of history, a rolling work of art that encapsulates the spirit of custom car culture. From its beginnings in Bakersfield to its current life in Indiana, the Cadillac has seen transformations and traveled miles, each phase adding to its rich story. As it continues to grace car shows and cruise the streets, this Cadillac proves that the dreams of the 90s are still alive and thriving today.
