Important Details To Keep In Mind Before Having Your Car Towed

April 27, 2021 By Gauge Magazine

Car Towed Whether due to ancient or some issue with your car no one wants to be stuck and in need of a tow truck. However, once you become a car owner or driver for that matter it is something that can potentially happen to you. After an ancient, you can find yourself in such a state of panic that you don’t know what to do or who to turn to. This is why it’s important to start training and reminding yourself of the safety measures you need to be aware of when driving and getting your car towed.

Things To Remember Before Having Your Car Towed

As a part of your safety while on the road, you want to take precautions in case of emergencies. You’ll of course have insurance, spare tires, flares, a jack, and other tools. You’ll also want to consider adding on a roadside assistance service if your insurance doesn’t cover or offer one. You should have all the important numbers saved on your phone. If you get in an accident or your car breaks down it may need to be towed. Knowing what to do is extremely important as these things can happen anywhere and anytime. Here are some other details to keep in mind before having your car towed.

1. Call Your Insurance Company First

Before you call a tow company, it’s best that you call your car insurance agency. Some agencies have a tow service that they prefer to use. While others don’t offer this service and you need to know what your options are. Your insurance agency may also have an approved list of care repair shops that you can take your care to. You need to know this because if you take your car to a shop, not on the list they may not cover your service fees.

2. Make Sure That Your Vehicle Needs To Be Towed First

Sometimes you can drive your car to the repair shop instead of it being towed. This of course will depend on what is wrong with it. Determining whether or not your car needs to be towed can save you money and time. As long as there are no fluid leaks, nothing is wrong with any of the tires, etc then you will most likely be able to drive it from the location. You also need to be aware of what rights you have if something goes wrong with it and how to handle the situation.

3. Make Preparations Before It is Towed

If you’ve determined that your car must be towed then you’ll need to make some preparations before that happens. Make sure that you take pictures of everything for proof later on. You remove any personal items from the vehicle. You cannot hold the tow company responsible for those things and so it’s best that you take them with you. This is also important for any documents you might need like your care insurance papers. Secure those once you’ve removed them from the vehicle.

4. Have A Reputable Tow Truck Do The Move For You

You might have tow trucks pull up to you. If they aren’t the one that you called or are expecting then take precautions. The company you choose should be reputable with great reviews and have all of the legal documents to operate as they do. If they approached you and you’re considering using their service make sure to get all of their information and refuse anyone that pushes you into working with them. They should also not force you into paying with cash as they are required to accept cards as well. You can search based on your area with your phone. Try searching la porte towing service if you’re in La Porte Texas or something similar based on your exact location to help you get better search results. It’ll also be the fastest way to see reviews.

5. Read All Of The Paper Work First

Make sure that you know the connections of the tow service before you sign or pay for anything. Once you do it will be difficult to fight should something happen that you weren’t aware of. Make sure that you know what is going on with your vehicle.

6. Know Where You Want Your Car Towed To

Before you have your car towed you need to know where it’s going. Make sure that you are taking it to an approved repair shop. If you are taking it to your home until you decide where you want to go or because of insurance reasons that clearly give your address and correct information. You don’t want to cause yourself more changes by having the tow truck make extra or unplanned stops.

Car Towed

Having these things in mind will make your experience a lot smoother and you’ll feel confident in knowing what to do. As mentioned things happen and you can find yourself in need of these services. Make sure that you have your emergency kit together. That includes having different contacts stored, having your insurance information handy, and having the contact of companies that you know and trust for assistance.
