What are blind spots in vehicles?

December 28, 2021 By Gauge Magazine

Blind spotsRiding, driving, or even cycling on the road requires core attention and agility to shift through lanes without causing trouble for others. The biggest hindrance while being on the road is the blind spots. Taking account of them will deliver you a healthy and carefree ride. Contrary to this ignoring them by mistake or by fault will cost you serious accidents.

So what are blind spots anyways?

Spots can be found in every motor vehicle, whether cars, trucks, or motorcycles. They are typically those areas on the road which your rear mirrors can not see.

Coming on the location and the sizes of these areas, it usually depends on what vehicle you are consuming. For example, driving a fully-loaded truck has a huge blind spot due to its large size.

Opposite to this riding, a motorcycle has comparatively smaller blind spots. However, the latest gears like helmets and riding at high speeds have increased the  spots for motorcyclists.

Checking blind spots while overtaking or changing lanes is very crucial. Overlooking can be fatal.

Where are the blind spots on the motorcycle

As mentioned, these spots are those points that the rider cannot see directly. So for a motorcyclist, blind spots are on the rear left, rear right, and behind the biker.

How to avoid blind spots?

Avoiding blind areas might seem difficult as looking behind or moving your neck right or left can make your riding suffer further. But following a set of precautions will help live longer on the roads.

Overtake quickly

A motorist has the privilege to get between the ways. But overtaking someone or being on the sides of a vehicle will ultimately hook you in the field of the blind spot.

What you have to do is overtake as quickly as you can. Now, this doesn’t mean you are overtaking with lightning speed.

Follow the speed limits but make sure not to be slow as a cyclist. After all, you are on a cycle with a motor, so use the speed to tackle the blind spots.

Avoid riding in blind spots.

The simplest way to avoid blind spots is not to ride in blind spot areas. Let me clarify if you are riding your motorcycle in the middle of the lane that ultimately, you are in a more attentive situation to analyze the traffic every second.

Try riding behind or in front of the car and on the left side of the lane. This will reduce your risk and provide you with added safety.

Now some speed lovers might argue that riding in a non-blind spot’s vicinity will surely improve your safety grades. Still, you have to compromise on your speed at the same time.

It might be some figures less than what you love, but it’s far better than having yourself found in a hospital with a severe accident.

Use a blind spot detection system.

The most efficient way to tackle blind spots is to install a new set of MOTO BSD ( blind spot detection).

The efficient MOTO BSD systems ensure a plug-and-play experience to ride safely. They are equipped with the latest technologies, including sensors and radar, to alert you about any vehicle in the blind spot area.

Conclusion

Blind spots are a fact! They are for every vehicle. However, the reduced size of motorcycles develops a much more difficult blind spot for the riders.

Just make sure to observe the traffic with a keen eye and avoid these spots if you’re not in a hurry.
