Outback in the Midwest 2025 brought an impressive collection of Holden vehicles and Australian-built performance cars to Indianapolis, Indiana, August 29–31. Hosted by Travis Bell, the annual gathering welcomed enthusiasts from across the country for a weekend celebrating Holden engineering, horsepower and community.
The event added a distinctly Australian flavor to the city’s active custom-car scene. Along with other major Indianapolis automotive events, Outback in the Midwest demonstrates how the city continues to attract specialized automotive gatherings with national followings.
Holden Vehicles Gather at Outback in the Midwest 2025
The 2025 weekend combined two related events. Holden Extravaganza opened the weekend Friday at Brown County Dragway in Morgantown, Indiana, where drivers could put their Australian-built performance machines on the track. The main Outback in the Midwest gathering followed Saturday at Travis Bell’s Indianapolis property, with a relaxed farewell gathering completing the weekend Sunday.
The featured Holden vehicles included Commodores, Monaros, Utes and performance models from Holden Special Vehicles. The gathering also welcomed American-market cars with deep Australian roots, including the Pontiac GTO, Pontiac G8, Chevrolet SS and Chevrolet Caprice PPV.
Many of these cars were engineered and manufactured by Holden in Australia before being sold in the United States under Pontiac or Chevrolet branding. Others have been transformed with authentic Holden body panels, badges, interiors and trim. The mix gives American enthusiasts a rare opportunity to see numerous versions of these cars together in one location. The official Holden heritage collection offers a deeper look at the Australian company’s history and most important models.
From a Backyard Cookout to a National Holden Gathering
Outback in the Midwest began as a small grassroots cookout for approximately 28 Pontiac GTO, Chevrolet SS and Caprice owners. Bell has said that recent gatherings have grown to include around 600 cars and 1,700 people, turning his original backyard meetup into a destination for Holden enthusiasts from across the United States.
Rather than concentrating entirely on traditional judging, the event emphasizes friendships, shared knowledge and the work required to preserve these increasingly uncommon Holden vehicles. Owners trade stories, compare modifications and celebrate an automotive culture that connects Australia with the United States.
