The May 2026 issue spotlighted the 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS Last Call, a build that proved passion projects donโt follow timelinesโthey follow inspiration. Mike Gomezโs โLast Callโ, a heavily customized 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS, stood as a perfect example of what happens when ideas keep evolving long after most builds would be considered finished.
The name Last Call wasnโt random. It came from countless late nights in the shop, where the pressure of the day faded and creativity took over. Those after-hours conversationsโusually over a Jack and Cokeโwere where the best ideas came to life. And over time, those ideas turned into one seriously dialed-in sport compact.
Built Over Time, Not Overnight
The 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS Last Call wasnโt a quick project. The Cobalt originally started as Mikeโs wifeโs daily driver back in 2006. After a minor accident in 2009, the plan was simpleโfix it and add a few upgrades. But like most real builds, that plan didnโt last long.
The project officially kicked off in 2010, with the main build wrapping up in 2018. But it didnโt stop there. In 2020, the car went back under the knife for its current version, featuring updated graphics and engine upgrades that pushed it even further.
Mikeโs background in the scene played a big role in the direction. Growing up around Brianโs shop, he had a front-row seat to everything from lowriders and mini trucks to hot rods. But it was an early BMW sport compact build that stuck with himโand ultimately inspired the vision behind this Cobalt.
Performance That Matches the Look
Under the hood, The 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS Last Call didnโt hold back. The LSJ Ecotec 2.0L engine was transformed with a serious list of upgrades, including a TVS 1320 supercharger, ported head work, upgraded cams, and a full ZZP-supported setup. Fuel delivery, cooling, and airflow were all addressed, making sure the performance backed up the aggressive styling.
Supporting mods like a Brembo brake kit, upgraded suspension components, and a fully dialed driveline ensured the car wasnโt just for showโit was built to perform.
A Standout Exterior
Visually, The 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS Last Callย made an immediate impact. Finished in a custom House of Kolor โSunsetโ paint scheme, the car featured bold graphics in tangelo, goldmine, hot pink, and moreโall tied together with detailed airbrush work and pinstriping.
The body was heavily modified with shaved panels, molded components, frenched lighting, and a full Drifter Extreme Dimensions body kit. Custom louvers, a widened wing, and refined body lines gave the car a completely unique presence.
Clean Interior and Audio Setup
Inside, the theme continued with a clean, smoothed-out look. The dash and door panels were shaved and wrapped for a hot rod-inspired finish. A Pioneer head unit paired with a Kicker KX 1200.1 amp and Kicker L7 subwoofer handled the audio, keeping things simple but effective.
More Than Just a Build
What really set this build apart was the story behind it. Mike credited his wife and kids for their patience and support, along with Brian and Sandy from JC Customs for helping bring the vision to life.
Even after all these years, the 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS Last Call still wasnโt done.. Future plans included engine bay beauty panels and continued refinement, proving that projects like this are never truly finished.
