Overlooked Mods Every S58 Enthusiast Should Know

January 31, 2025 By Gauge Magazine

S58 EnthusiastTuning the S58 engine can unlock mind-blowing performance, but some upgrades don’t get the attention they deserve. If you’re serious about making your car faster, more reliable, and ready for any challenge, you’ll want to look beyond the obvious mods. This post covers three often-overlooked upgrades that can make a significant difference for your build.

Upgrading the Charge Pipes for Durability and Performance

Stock charge pipes on the S58 engine are functional but not designed to handle the pressures that come with higher boost levels. When you start pushing for more power, these pipes can crack or blow out, leading to inconsistent performance or even engine damage.

Switching to aftermarket charge pipes solves this issue. High-quality aluminum or reinforced silicone options are far more durable and can handle increased pressure without flexing or failing. You’ll also notice improved airflow, which translates to more consistent power delivery.

When choosing replacement charge pipes, look for those with smooth interior surfaces and proper fitment to avoid any installation headaches. This upgrade is a must for anyone running higher boost levels, and it pairs perfectly with a custom tune or upgraded turbo.

Intercooler Upgrades for Better Heat Management

The harder you push the S58, the more heat it generates. Excess heat can rob your engine of power, especially during sustained high-performance driving. The stock intercooler does an adequate job for daily use, but it quickly reaches its limits when things heat up—literally.

Upgrading to a larger, high-performance intercooler keeps intake air temperatures lower, which means your engine can maintain peak power for longer. This is especially useful if you enjoy track days or spirited drives on twisty roads. Cooler air is denser, which leads to better combustion and more power.

Look for intercoolers with efficient fin designs and larger cores that fit well within the S58’s tight engine bay. You’ll feel the difference in responsiveness, and your engine will thank you for the added cooling capacity.

The Value of High-Quality Engine Mounts for Stability

You might not think much about your engine mounts, but they play a huge role in how your car handles and feels. Stock mounts are designed with comfort in mind, which means they allow for more engine movement. While that’s fine for most drivers, it becomes a problem when you increase power or drive aggressively.

Upgrading to stiffer, high-quality engine mounts reduces unwanted movement, ensuring your engine stays firmly in place. This has a direct impact on power delivery, making it smoother and more immediate. It also helps with overall stability, especially under hard acceleration or cornering.

With upgraded mounts, you’ll notice improved feedback and control, giving you a more connected driving experience. This is one of those mods that you don’t realize you need until you feel the difference.

Each of these upgrades addresses critical areas that are often overlooked when tuning an S58 engine. They not only improve performance but also make your car more reliable and enjoyable to drive. These upgrades are essential for anyone serious about S58 tuning and looking to get the most out of their setup. Whether you’re chasing track times or just want a more responsive ride, these mods are worth considering.
