Does Your Chevrolet Have These 5 Common Issues?

August 7, 2023 By Gauge Magazine

common issuesChevrolet, a subsidiary of General Motors, has produced many desirable and reliable vehicles that many drivers love. In fact, Chevrolet is easily one of the most popular vehicle brands in the world. However, whether you drive a Chevrolet Silverado, a Corvette, or something else, you might have encountered some of these common issues:

Fuel Failures

Many Chevrolet owners contact a Chevy lemon lawyer after spending a frustrating amount of time in workshops with their vehicles for fuel problems. The Chevrolet Blaze, in particular, has been known to experience issues relating to the fuel pump, gas cap, fuel gauge, and distributor.

Fuel problems can be frustrating, especially since a car receiving insufficient fuel will be unlikely to start. Fortunately, if you’re having issues relating to ongoing repairs for a Chevrolet purchased at a dealership under warranty, you might have rights under California Vehicle Lemon Law.

Transmission Failure

If you were the proud owner of a new 2005 Chevrolet Impala, you might not have been proud for long. This car has a less than impressive history, with Chevrolet recalling it four times and the NHTSA receiving hundreds of complaints.

The most common issue relating to this model is transmission failure. Many owners report hearing loud noises and feeling jerking and stuttering before the transmission system eventually fails. Fixing or replacing a transmission in a Chevrolet Impala can cost thousands of dollars.

Water Leaks

Water leaks were quite a common problem in the Chevrolet Equinox. According to the NHTSA, water leaks in this car are most common around the roof ditch within the first 12 inches, rearward from the windshield glass. Many owners might notice wet carpet and flooring around the driver or passenger footwell related to insufficient or incomplete sealing from the front roof to the outer panel seams of the body.

Excessive Oil Consumption

We all know that vehicles use oil, but perhaps not at the rate that some Chevrolet Equinox owners have found. Some 2013 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles with 2.4L engines may have excessive engine oil consumption due to piston ring wear.

Some owners notice a rattle or knocking sound from the engine before the engine oil pressure alert comes on the instrument panel with instructions to stop the engine due to low oil pressure. The NHTSA says that vehicle owners who paid for repairs for this issue are eligible for reimbursement.

Power Steering Issues

We need power steering to drive our vehicles comfortably, but many Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon truck owners didn’t have it. The NHTSA launched an investigation when General Motors issued a recall for specific Colorado and Canyon trucks relating to their power steering.

They had received multiple reports relating to a sudden loss of power steering. The NHTSA also received at least 50 more complaints about a sudden loss of power steering in Colorado and Canyon trucks that weren’t involved in that initial recall. After investigations, General Motors said the power steering loss could be traced to corroded connectors damaged by the supplier before installation.

Chevrolet has produced many reliable vehicles over the years, but the brand isn’t perfect. If you’ve encountered any of these issues above, you might have more rights regarding repairs and replacement than you think.
