Uncommon Causes Of Car Accidents You Should Watch Out For

February 13, 2024 By Gauge Magazine

Uncommon Causes Of Car AccidentsAnyone could say that ‘drinking and driving’ or ‘speeding’ can lead to accidents. Unfortunately, a lot of road accidents are caused due to less obvious reasons. Let’s raise some awareness about these uncommon causes of car accidents.

  1. Distractions

A distraction as fleeting as a notification on your mobile phone can be the cause of a fatal car accident. Loud music and watching videos, should be strictly avoided while driving. There are more responsible ways to have fun on the road. If there is something urgent or unavoidable, pull up your car first and then attend to the matter. This is not a Uncommon Causes Of Car Accidents

  1. Lack of Sleep

Fatigue from a sleepless night is also a major cause of road mishaps, especially among long-distance commuters like truck drivers.

If you feel drowsy or find yourself unable to concentrate on the road, it’s better to take some time to rest and recover rather than risk your life and also put others in danger.

  1. Ignoring Traffic Signs

Well, those of you who drive strictly by the road safety rules might find it surprising that there are a fair number of drivers who disregard stop signs and traffic signals and end up in a road crash. But sadly, this is true!

  1. Underage and Unlicensed Drivers

Motor vehicle laws are pretty strict regarding issuing driving licenses and only those who meet the age criteria and pass the driving test are permitted to take automobiles on the road. However, many unqualified drivers find ways to drive unauthorisedly and become a cause of road accidents.

  1. Climatic Conditions

It is best to avoid driving in times of heavy rains, winds, fog or snow. Adverse climatic conditions can hamper visibility to a great extent and make driving riskier. Besides, wet or snow-covered roads can also be more slippery and prevent drivers from braking as usual.

Take note of the weather forecast before you start a long journey. If you encounter bad weather while on the road, make sure to drive slowly and find a place to wait until the conditions get better.

  1. Driving in Rage

Quite a few people try to overtake other cars for fun or in rage. Although such a car chase scene pumps up the adrenaline and makes you feel you’re starring in the next big action movie, it is very risky! Such reckless driving can easily end up in a disastrous life-threatening crash. If you’re being tailgated by another, deal with it sensibly.

  1. Driving at Night

Late night driving comes with a bundle of challenges, especially for inexperienced drivers. Not only is the visibility much lower, but this is also the time when cars are running at high speed and when other drivers are more likely to lose control of their vehicles due to fatigue or being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  1. Animals

Quite a few Uncommon Causes Of Car Accidents happen because a stray animal suddenly finds its way to the highway or busy city roads. These incidents are not very common but not unheard of.

If you spot a stray cat or dog in front of you, try to make way without hurting the poor animal. It’s best to drive within speed limit so you can control your vehicle in case of such emergencies.

  1. Road Conditions

Potholes and bumps on the roads can turn a speeding car off balance and lead to major accidents. Unfortunately, road conditions are not always perfect and almost every driver will encounter unfavorable roads at some point or the other.

The right and safe way to drive across difficult roads is to keep the speed in control and try to drive around the hole or bump.

  1. Car Faults

Sometimes accidents can occur because the vehicle’s engine or accelerator defaulted, the tires blew out or the brakes failed. Maintaining your car in top shape and getting it serviced regularly is crucial to avoid such misfortunes.

Conclusion

Driving may seem mundane but calls for great responsibility and mindfulness. A mistake can cost someone’s life – it could be you, another driver, or a pedestrian.

Always be aware of your surroundings, the road conditions, and other vehicles around you. Driving safely takes some effort in the beginning but will become second nature to you eventually.
