What was the inspiration?
Originally built in California by Kris Brandini for SEMA. My reason behind it was I have always built bodied or framed trucks on air. I owned a 4wd daily driver that I had recently sold to a friend to free up funds to finish Project FyrWood (yes the one that was captured in Bewley's body shop Jail) and was lining up a low cost replacement. The low cost replacement fell through and the 2wd trucks couldn't put my trailer in my garage with a truck in it, so I had to find a 4wd. I went on the hunt for a 4wd in my price range. All of the ones I liked were over my original budget or mileage. I then found some Duramax trucks that were not much more than the price range where I was looking. Once I decided I wanted a Duramax, the price rose again, and I ended up finding one in Wisconsin with a 6" lift and wheels. I went to show a friend of mine the truck and I was having trouble finding it on Autotrader. Two other trucks showed up in my search, one was Big Red. I called Kris in Simi Valley Ca. and told him I wanted to buy his truck and bring it back to Ohio. At first he thought I was pranking him, but the numbers lined up and after a week or two of bank negotiation, I was on a plane to Burbank with a 3000 mile roadtrip ahead for me and the wife.
How long did it take you to build?
About 6 months - Originally, in 2013 the refresh was over the last 2 yrs.
How long have you been building?
I have been building show vehicles since 1993, and trucks since 1995. I have meet a lot of people over the years and made a lot of friends through this lifestyle.
