How To Keep Your Garage Clean And Tidy

July 28, 2021 By Gauge Magazine

Garage Clean And TidyYour home should always be kept clean, as it is a reflection of how you maintain and organize your life. One aspect of your home that you should not forget about is the garage. Although it is easy to forget about, and many garages are fairly dirty, it is still important to keep clean if possible. Here are some ways to help you keep your garage clean and tidy.

Cabinets, Closets, Shelves, And Drawers

When you are seeking out solutions for ways to keep your garage clean, one of the primary options you need to consider is your different storage options. A garage can easily get messy with clutter everywhere, especially since many people use their garage as a means to hold different items that may not fit in their home, or are meant for outdoor use. Installing different cabinets, closets, shelves and drawers will help solve your space problems and alleviate the disorganization in your garage. Having these storage options, not only store your different belongings but make it easy to maintain your organization. Label different compartments, and separate your storage spaces for items like tools dedicated to working on your car, other equipment, outdoor toys, things meant for yard work, and anything else that you may store and want to gain access to easily and quickly.

Use The Walls

Most garages are limited in their space, even with the use of certain storage compartments. This is why it is helpful to store your tools in a way that maximizes the space you have by using your walls. Install hanging shelves, pegs, and hooks to help you keep your tools easily accessible and visible while keeping them off the ground and without the need for bulky storage compartments to take up space in your garage. In addition to using the walls to help maximize your garage space, depending on the height of your garage, you may have some headroom to work with as well. This translates to an emphasis to use as much space as possible when you are constructing your storage solutions, ensuring that you get the appropriate storage to build all the way up and cover as much space as possible without being intrusive.

Protective Flooring

Whether you are working on your vehicle, or you drive in conditions that are out of the ordinary, one way to ensure that your garage stays clean is with protective flooring. You want to use floor coverings or material that will help you keep different chemicals, liquids, dirt, and other debris off your floor, as you can cause permanent or tough-to-remove stains to settle in without such measures. AutoFloorGuard mats alleviate exactly this problem, keeping stains off the floor surface, and on an easy-to-clean material. This is important not only for when you are maintaining your car but also in conditions where the weather changes often. In places where snow is common and streets are filled with salt to help melt the snow, it is easy to track those particles back to your garage. This can be damaging not only to your vehicle, but also the floor, which can translate to various types of damage like cracks, and stains.

Washing And Detailing Your Car

Your car is often the biggest culprit of bringing in dirt to your garage. In order to maintain a clean garage, one good practice to remember is to frequently wash and detail your vehicle. This will ensure that no dirt and debris is brought into your garage, which is especially important if you take your vehicle into the outdoors where dust, mud, and dirt can accumulate on the underside of your vehicle.

Garage Clean And Tidy

Expansion

If you have the property space to work with and are feeling that your garage is limited in size, one consideration to make is that you can potentially expand that space and construct a bigger garage. This will help you keep your garage clean and tidy but instantly giving you more space to store all your belongings, but also to move around more freely. This is one of the more drastic options, as you will need to potentially demolish the old structure in order to build a sturdy and strong garage able to suit your needs. This would require both financial capability and a dedication of time in order to complete.

Pest Free Maintenance

Do a check of your garage to ensure there are no holes where pests and bugs can enter. During colder months and poor weather conditions, animals and bugs may look to your garage for safety. Also, keep in mind if you are reconstructing your garage, ensure that it is properly sealed in terms of entrances. You want to deter insects, pests, and other animals from entering your garage where they can not only make a mess but also potentially create a nest and reside, causing more problems than simple uncleanliness.

Declutter Your Space

Many people use their garage as a storage space, throwing all their oversized and extra items in there when they cannot fit them in their home. If you want to keep your garage spacious and clean, avoid treating it like a junk keep to store things you don’t necessarily need. If you find yourself doing this and with little space to park your car and do work on it, it is a good practice to go through your belongings periodically and get rid of items and things you don’t need. Avoid accumulating and hoarding things, and you will find it much easier to keep your garage clean and organized.

Clean Supplies Readily Available

A garage is both a storage space for your vehicle and a place to work on it from maintenance to repairs. This can translate easily to your garage ending up messy and dirty, from fluids spilled to the accumulation of dust and debris. It is important that if you want to keep your garage organized and clean, that you have the tools to maintain the space as you wish. To help facilitate this, consider keeping a broom, dustpan, or even a vacuum nearby. Having these tools in a handy place will make cleanliness easier and more time-efficient, ensure you don’t let things slide and leave them for later.

It can be easy to overlook the cleanliness and maintenance of your garage, as this is often a detached portion of your house. It is still just as important that you properly maintain this area to ensure that your vehicle is kept in good condition, as well as the fact that it is connected to your home. Keeping it clean can be easy with the right organization and storage space.
