1972 NISSAN SKYLINE 2000 GT-X “HAKOSUKA” SEMA 2016

November 1, 2016 By Gauge Magazine

NEOS – The world’s leading OE lubricant supplier for Asian automakers – has teamed up with Ginash George from Chicago, IL to bring you a very special restoration project.

Ginash is an active member of the JDM tuning scene as well as the owner, chief editor, writer and photographer for JDM Chicago – the Chicago-based online magazine, forum and community.

The story behind his 1972 Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-X “Hakosuka” dates back to February 2008 when George visited the Nissan headquarters in Japan. His goal was to see the new Nissan GT-R since the car wouldn’t be unveiled in the US until later that year. Although impressed with the latest GT-R, he decided instead to look at its predecessor, the 1972 Nissan Skyline, and fell for its character and soul.

George found Eric Bizek of JDM Legends – a Utah-based company specializing in classic Japanese car importation and restoration – but its inventory of Hakosuka (a nickname given to this generation of Skyline coupe, meaning “box” and “Skyline”) was limited. The cars are in short supply everywhere, even in Japan. However, they found a nice example of the Skyline 2000 GT-X. Inevitably, the 40 year-old vehicle needed some restoration, which the company undertook.

When ENEOS learned about George’s Hakosuka restoration, it evoked the story of the company’s own JDM “factory fill” legacy. In the early 1970s, the JDM performance culture was in its infancy, but it soon became a phenomenon that spanned the globe and featured some of the most technologically advanced high-performance vehicles available at the time. Throughout that period and up to the present day, ENEOS has

remained the leading OE supplier for Asian vehicles, continuing to be the top choice for performance applications. The Hakosuka is a fantastic symbol of the evolution of the Japanese motor industry and ENEOS itself.

The result of George’s journey is perhaps one of the best C10 model Nissan Skyline in the United States. ENEOS is delighted to share it with fans of Japanese automotive culture at SEMA 2016 and through a special video series, which explores GT-R culture, entitled “ENEOS JDM Evolution.”
