The Importance of Car Locks

March 17, 2021 By Gauge Magazine

Power door car locks (also known as electric door locks or central locking) allow the driver or front passenger to simultaneously lock or unlock all the doors of an automobile or truck, by pressing a button or flipping a switch. Power door locks were introduced on the luxury Scripps-Booth in 1914. The question arises – should you have individual locks or power door locks? Let us see.

Should You Have One or Many?

The first types of car locks were extremely similar to the home locks at the time. Vehicle locks were cylinders and regardless of the type of system they utilized, up until the 1970s vehicle locks contained the lock code outside of the cylinder lock. As can be seen, these were rather primitive, and breaking into a car was rather easy.

Cars can be fitted with an electronic locking system which is connected to the car’s alarm system. To lock the car from the inside, the driver uses the key to lock one of the front doors and all the doors lock automatically. Additionally, rear passenger doors are frequently fitted with child safety locks to prevent children from exiting the vehicle unless the door is opened from the exterior. These are also frequently used on police cars, to prevent suspect criminals from escaping whilst in police custody. As you can see, even police realized the full potential of such locks.

It is easy to see the many benefits that central locking in cars pose to vehicle owners. Regardless of which vehicle you drive, or how often you drive, central locking is not only convenient but can also help keep you safe on the road.  You can open the driver’s door, or the passenger’s door selectively. Locked doors are most important security measure after having a seatbelt.

Being Secure With Your Lockscar locks

Depending what you’re trying to secure, you might consider the different options for unlocking. A traditional key system works for most situations, but not all. Remote entry or timed unlocking systems can be excellent for some doors. Garage doors can be manually unlocked and opened, but it’s often easier to a remote system. After all, having things being remote controlled is a fad.

For security reasons, it is best to undergo a full car door lock cylinder replacement. This will protect the inside of your car from being accessed. It is the minimum level of protection that you can offer your vehicle after losing the keys. Rekey or replace the ignition cylinder inside of the automobile. This is the only method to keep the car safe.

The tampered with or broken into lock are serious but loss of keys are a more prevalent occurrence and brings on a feeling of dread. When a key breaks or any loss occurs the best person to call is a locksmith as they have the appropriate tools and know how to get you back on track. For instance, if your Honda key is broken, and you need a replacement, you’ll need to find an auto locksmith for a Honda key replacement; knowing the exact model of your Honda will allow him to choose a high-quality key blank. Better save the number in your phone in order to have it always on your person.

It’s your worst nightmare: a broken car key in door preventing you from either opening or properly locking your vehicle. This scenario is even worse if your car doesn’t come with a remote key fob that allows you to pop the locks at the push of a button, or if your fob battery has died. Getting a spare car key from a manufacturer can often run into hundreds of pounds and it is no surprise that many people are put off for the reasons of cost but if you use a local locksmith you could be pleasantly surprised by the cost and how quickly a new key can be made.

So, what is the best way to approach this issue? Simply pick good Auto Locksmith Services! It is easy as that. After all, you’re giving up your car’s safety into their arms. Better have a professional do it, am I right?
