4 Most Powerful Pickup Trucks You Should Consider

October 30, 2023 By Gauge Magazine

pickupPower isn’t the only consideration when comparing trucks, but it can determine your choice. In fact, torque and horsepower ultimately determine your truck’s drivability and reliability. The engine output affects fuel economy and towing capacity. While power may be one of the many considerations when choosing a pickup truck, most people are keen on power output. Here’s a list of the most powerful pickup trucks.

1. Rivian

Rivian is a recent entrant in the auto market specializing in versatile electric vehicles. Their trucks have futuristic interiors with functional features. The design is revolutionary as it includes a front trunk and rear pass-through for more practicality.

The electric trucks have quad-motor or dual-motor setups. Quad-motor trims have motors on all wheels to ensure maximum power delivery. The motors generate up to 908 lbs of torque and 835 horsepower. This power is sufficient for swift acceleration and an impressive towing capacity of about 11,000 pounds.

2. Chevrolet Silverado

The Chevrolet Silverado is a versatile truck that lives up to expectations. It has a beautiful interior with an intuitive infotainment system. Features like Android Auto and Apple Carplay are standard in the Silverado.

The truck has several powertrain options, and you can choose between the eight-speed and ten-speed drivetrains. With diesel and gas options, the smallest V8 engine generates up to 355 horsepower, which is enough to move the bulky truck. Advanced trims with bigger engines produce serious power that can tow up to 13,300 lbs when equipped with a standard bed. If you want to get a towing bed, you can consider various financing options and check how much you can get.

3. Ford Lightning

Electric trucks are making a bold entry in the pickup truck market to challenge traditional automakers. Ford Lightning has a series of electric trucks with dual motors. The power output is about 426 horsepower but can be boosted up to 580 with an extended range battery pack.

While the extra battery pack adds more horsepower, the torque remains the same. However, the truck becomes impressively swift and improves the range to 320 miles on a single charge. If you can get the right tow package, the trailer can handle up to 10,000 lbs. However, towing heavy loads can affect the truck’s average range.

4. Toyota Tundra

The Toyota Tundra is a reliable truck with several generations, which proves the manufacturer’s experience in the industry. The newest Tundra redesign has abandoned the V8 engine and adopted the twin-turbocharged V6 engine. However, advanced trims have a V6 hybrid system.

The hybrid Tundra is dubbed i-Force Max, and its design consists of an electric motor and a V6 engine that generates about 583 lbs of torque and 437 horsepower. The engine setup is standard in all the Capstone and TRD Pro variants.

Endnote

A good pickup truck is versatile enough to handle daily driving and getting the job done. Drivability and practicality determine how you can use the truck. Most importantly, power and torque output can vary between different trucks in the same class. Most truck enthusiasts prefer a vehicle with enough power and good fuel consumption. With all-electric and hybrid options on the market, you can get a powerful truck for your needs.
