“2Ballistic”
In the automotive world, some vehicles stand as a tribute to innovation and passion. Randy Frederick’s “2Ballistic,” featured at SEMA 2023, is one such masterpiece. This 1991 Toyota Pickup, with its remarkable journey from a humble beginning to a stunning custom build, embodies the spirit of automotive dedication. In this article, we delve into the story behind “2Ballistic” and its awe-inspiring transformation.
The Name and Its Meaning
“2Ballistic” pays homage to the original “Ballistic” truck that was built in 1993. It’s a tribute that celebrates the legacy of the past while embracing the possibilities of the present.
The Build Journey
Randy’s journey with “2Ballistic” spans over five years, but its roots go even deeper. He spent over a decade collecting parts and dreaming about the perfect build. Remarkably, everything on the truck is OEM brand new from Toyota, except for the front grille and lower bumper valance, as these two parts are no longer available from Toyota.
The Roadblocks
Randy faced challenges during the build, particularly due to a previous shop’s mishandling of the truck. Their mistakes pushed the project back by a year, but Randy’s perseverance prevailed.
Club Affiliation
“2Ballistic” proudly represents the Negative Camber club, a group of like-minded enthusiasts dedicated to the custom automotive scene.
Future Plans
As Randy puts it, “It’s done.” The custom Toyota pickup is a work of art, and his plans involve showcasing it with his club and simply enjoying the fruits of his labor.
Vehicle History
Randy’s journey with “2Ballistic” began when he bought the truck from a used car lot. It was bone stock and held immense potential. However, the first shop he entrusted with the project only caused more harm than good. Thankfully, Randy’s Negative Camber friends came to the rescue, salvaging the truck and turning it into a true masterpiece.
Acknowledgments
Randy extends his gratitude to a long list of friends, supporters, and experts who played a crucial role in making “2Ballistic” a reality. Their dedication and expertise are evident in the final product.
Previous Rides
Randy’s automotive journey is filled with an array of previous rides, each with its own unique story and character.
Under the Hood
“2Ballistic” features a Toyota engine from 1991, with four cylinders and a displacement of 2.4 liters. The engine remains bone stock but received some refreshing. It boasts LC engineering upgrades, including a Billet Big Bore Throttle body, header, fan pulley, and wire loom, along with polished upper and lower intakes.
Driveline and Chassis
The truck’s driveline and chassis received meticulous attention. It features a 3/4 back stock floored frame and Bell Tech dropped spindles. The air suspension is managed by Viar, with airbags from Slam Specialties.
Wheels and Paint
“2Ballistic” rolls on Colorado Custom wheels, sized 18×7 inches and wrapped in Nitto Neo Gen tires. The eye-catching 1973 Porsche Raspberry paint, applied by Eric Foelber, adds a touch of elegance to the truck’s striking appearance.
Body and Interior
The truck’s body underwent significant modifications, including a stock floor 2.5-inch body drop. The interior boasts a two-tone dashboard, custom steering wheel, and a center console crafted by Chris Lancaster. The audio system, featuring Kicker components, adds to the overall experience.
In sum, “2Ballistic” is a testament to Randy Frederick’s dedication, the support of his friends, and the boundless possibilities of automotive customization. Featured at SEMA 2023, it serves as a timeless reminder of the innovation and passion that drive the automotive world forward.
