What was the inspiration?
This van was purchased to be a demo vehicle for our company in partnership with a few of our Vendors. DS18 is the main sponsor for this build, supplying all of the Subwoofers, Speakers, and Amplifiers. XS Power came on board to help with all of the Batteries, Full Tilt for all of the wiring, and Brand X for Alternators.
How long did it take you to build?
This project has been in the works since November of 2020 and is still an on going build. I mean are bassheads ever really happy?
How long have you been building?
Personally I have been building for 17 years. They just seem to keep bigger and more complicated.
Your future plans?
We currently have the van mostly stripped down and are working on a partial rebuild of the box and amp rack. It had 8 15s, but we are looking at swapping over to 14 12" Subwoofers. Not sure on the amplifiers just yet, but should come in with around 60-80,000W on the subs once completed.
Vehicle history
I do not know much detail on the history of this van other than it has been in the SPL scene for over 20 years and has had quite a few world titles won by different competitors over the years.

1990 Chevy Astro

In the world of car audio, there are those who simply enjoy a little extra bass in their daily commute, and then there are those who take it to a whole new level. Meet Droppin HZ Car Audio, the brains behind the awe-inspiring custom build that is their 1990 Chevrolet Astro.

The story begins with the purchase of this van, intended to be a demo vehicle for Droppin HZ Car Audio in collaboration with several vendors. DS18, the main sponsor, supplied all the subwoofers, speakers, and amplifiers, while XS Power contributed the batteries, Full Tilt handled the wiring, and Brand X provided the alternators. This partnership laid the foundation for a project that would redefine the concept of car audio customization.

The project officially commenced in November 2020 and is still ongoing. As the owner of Droppin HZ Car Audio puts it, “Are bassheads ever really happy?” This build, with its intricate details and commitment to perfection, is a testament to the dedication of the team behind it.

The owner of Droppin HZ Car Audio brings a wealth of experience to the table, with 17 years of building and customizing vehicles. Over the years, the projects have only grown in scale and complexity, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the car audio world. They have set the bar for many, but have also helped many gain the titles they have today thanks to their help and products!

As for club affiliations, the owners haven’t specified any in particular, but it’s clear that this project is a labor of love driven by a personal passion for high-quality car audio.

Currently, the van is undergoing a partial rebuild of the box and amp rack. Originally equipped with 8 15-inch subwoofers, the plan is to upgrade to 14 12-inch subwoofers, with the amplifiers delivering a staggering 60-80,000 watts of power to the subs once completed. This ambitious upgrade promises to take the audio experience to a whole new level. But where did this Astro Van start off at?

While the exact history of the van remains a mystery, what’s certain is that it has been a part of the SPL scene for over two decades, accumulating numerous world titles along the way. Its legacy as a champion in the world of car audio is indisputable.

With two decades of known history under its belt and many world titles, there are many to thank. Special thanks go to DS18, XS Power, Full Tilt, and Brand X for their invaluable contributions to this remarkable build.

The 1990 Chevrolet Astro by Droppin HZ Car Audio is more than just a vehicle; it’s a work of art to the entire car audio community. With its ongoing upgrades and commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, this van is sure to continue making waves in the world of custom car audio.
