Thousands of Hot Rods, Customs, and Classic Vehicles
The variety of vehicles displayed at Goodguys Columbus 2026 was one of the weekendโs biggest attractions. Traditional hot rods shared the fairgrounds with restored muscle cars, custom pickups, vintage street machines, classic imports, restomods, and professionally constructed show vehicles.
Early Ford coupes and roadsters represented the traditional hot rod community, while Chevrolet Camaros, Ford Mustangs, Dodge Challengers, Pontiac GTOs, and other legendary muscle cars showcased multiple generations of American performance. Some remained close to their original factory appearance, while others featured modern engines, updated suspensions, larger brakes, and contemporary interiors.
Custom trucks were also well represented throughout the show. Lowered Chevrolet C10s, restored Ford F-Series pickups, vintage work trucks, Broncos, Blazers, and other modified utility vehicles demonstrated the creativity that continues to drive the classic truck community.
Many of the most impressive details required a closer look. Shaved trim, tightened body gaps, custom-machined components, hidden wiring, handmade interior panels, detailed chassis work, and carefully selected wheels showed the planning and labor invested in each build.
Indoor Car Show and Builder Displays
The indoor portion of the show featured some of the highest-level builds attending the Columbus Nationals. Vehicles through the 1999 model year were eligible for the indoor car show, where they could be considered for Builderโs Choice honors and select Goodguys national award categories.
The indoor displays allowed spectators to study exceptional paintwork, interiors, engine compartments, fabrication, and design in a controlled setting. These vehicles represented a broad mix of styles, ranging from traditional customs to contemporary street machines built with advanced performance technology.
Builder displays also gave fans an opportunity to see work from professional shops and learn more about the companies responsible for creating some of the countryโs most recognized customs.
Goodguys AutoCross Action in Columbus
Goodguys Columbus 2026 was about more than static vehicle displays. Goodguys AutoCross competition gave drivers the chance to test their vehicles on a timed course featuring tight turns, quick transitions, acceleration zones, and heavy braking.
The AutoCross action demonstrated that many of the street machines and Pro Touring builds on display were engineered to perform as well as they looked. Spectators watched drivers push classic muscle cars, trucks, and highly modified performance machines through the course in pursuit of quicker times.
The competition added sound, speed, and excitement to the weekend while highlighting modern suspension, braking, tire, and chassis technology available for vintage vehicles.
Vendor Midway, Swap Meet, and Cars for Sale
The manufacturer and vendor midway brought automotive companies from across the industry to Columbus. Attendees could explore wheels, tires, suspension systems, engine components, detailing supplies, tools, apparel, electronics, and accessories for nearly every type of project.
Representatives from participating companies were available to answer questions and help builders compare products for current and future vehicles. Manufacturer displays also provided a closer look at new components and technologies being introduced to the hot rod and restoration markets.
The automotive swap meet offered another major attraction. Vendors displayed hard-to-find parts, signs, memorabilia, wheels, trim, tools, and project components. The Cars 4 Sale Corral gave attendees the opportunity to browse complete vehicles looking for new owners.
Awards Recognize Outstanding Craftsmanship
Awards have always played an important role in the Summit Racing Nationals. Goodguys judges, respected builders, sponsors, and automotive industry professionals recognize vehicles for their craftsmanship, design, engineering, presentation, and attention to detail.
The Columbus event traditionally includes Builderโs Choice selections, specialty awards, AutoCross honors, and major Goodguys national awards. The event is also associated with the selection of the Goodguys Street Rod of the Year and Street Machine of the Year.
Goodguys had not yet released the complete official 2026 Summit Racing Nationals award winners when this Gauge Magazine coverage was prepared on July 13, 2026. The names previously associated with the eventโincluding Ross Myers and his 1936 Ford Roadster and Angelo Vespi and his 1987 Buick Grand Nationalโwere the official 2025 Columbus winners and should not be identified as the 2026 winners.
Readers looking for the newly released results can check the official Goodguys event award winners page, where Goodguys publishes downloadable results following each event.
The Goodguys Columbus Automotive Community
The Summit Racing Nationals are about more than the vehicles. The event gives owners, builders, manufacturers, photographers, clubs, and spectators an opportunity to connect through a shared appreciation for automotive culture.
Every vehicle has a story. Some were assembled by professional shops, while others were completed by owners in home garages over many years. Some builds represented fresh ideas and modern technology, while others preserved family history or restored vehicles to the condition in which they first appeared decades ago.
Conversations between owners and spectators are an important part of the experience. Builders often share information about paint colors, engine combinations, suspension setups, wheel choices, fabrication challenges, and the process required to bring a project together.
