Car Interior Maintenance Tips From the Experts

August 9, 2021 By Gauge Magazine

If you have a luxury or expensive car, you want to maintain it in its stunning condition, particularly the interior. By keeping your car clean, you can maintain its resale value, particularly if it’s a luxury vehicle. A deep clean once a month may not be sufficient to remove all the dirt and stains, as well as odors from the inside of your vehicle. There are different measures that you should take to clean your automobile. Here are car interior maintenance tips from the experts.

Car Interior Maintenance Tips

Vacuum Your Carpets and Seats

The carpets and floor mats are usually the dirtiest, so you must pay special attention to cleaning them thoroughly.-  Spills, crumbs, and dirty shoes can build up and start to produce odors if your carpets are not cleaned regularly. First of all, brush out as much of the debris as you can. Then get a vacuum and suck up all the loose dirt on the carpets and the upholstery – especially if the upholstery is made of cloth. Next, remove solid objects like food wrappers, coins, and other particles that have accumulated on the carpet. Make sure you slide the seats backward and forward to clean everything.

Some mats trap dirt particles from the shoes and become caked, making them difficult to remove. If vacuuming does not remove the grime, use a stiff brush to loosen it. You can also try to use a steam cleaner on your carpet and upholstery. However, it is vital to avoid soaking the seats to prevent mold and a musty smell.

Use Fabric Protector

If you have kids, you need to buy some fabric protector or another similar cleaning product if you want to keep your car in a pristine condition. To get the best product, you should consider reviewing upholstery protectors and carefully read the instructions. You spray the upholstery protector on the seats, carpets, and floor mats because it is designed to repel stains and spills. It is also very effective in protecting your upholstery from further mishaps, like spilled juice, ice cream, and all the mess kids can make in your car. They also usually smell very pleasant, which just adds to the enjoyment of driving a clean car!

Windshield and Mirrors

Air pollution from vapors such as cigarette smoke inside your car can leave residue on the windows and windshield, and they become dirty. As a result, visibility is affected. Other materials on the windows can leave permanent streaks that can be unsightly inside your car. Therefore, you should clean your windows using a multi-purpose cleaner and try to be cautious. When cleaning the windshield or the windows, do not scratch them. Use a soft microfiber cloth and spray to avoid streaking and prevent the cleaner from getting on other parts that can be damaged easily. Roll your windows down, check the line of grime and clean it.

Touch screens usually collect fingerprint grease traces and dust. It is important that you use the appropriate cleaning products. Don’t use glass cleaning products, as they could damage the surface of a touch screen, find the right one for the job. Gently rub the screen using a microfiber cloth containing isopropyl alcohol. Do not use ammonia-based window cleaners on your stereo since they can damage the anti-fingerprint and anti-glare coatings. Make sure you invest in the right products to ensure that you maintain the interior of your car in its original state for a longer period.

Invest in Leather and Vinyl Cleaner

Leather and vinyl require gentle cleaning since they have a protective coating. Use a soft cloth, apply some dish soap, and finish off with a leather conditioner to prevent the leather from drying. Products containing hydrogen peroxide or bleach must never be used on leather. The same process should also apply when cleaning a dashboard consisting of vinyl and leather. Do not apply sprays that can leave the surface of your dashboard looking glossy or wet.

Before you apply the cleaning product on the dashboard, vacuum all the dust away, and try to reach all corners. After cleaning the dashboard and other related parts like door panels, which are generally made of similar material, you may need to apply a different interior dressing. This will protect the material from cracking or fading as a result of exposure to sunlight.

Hard Surfaces

When you want to clean hard interior surfaces, you can use solutions that contain about 70 percent alcohol to remove dirt. Dampen a soft paintbrush or even a toothbrush and clean the seams, vents, and cup holders. After that, dampen your microfiber cloth with alcohol and clean all the hard surfaces. Do not use paper towels because they can leave lint behind.

Car Interior Maintenance Tips

Professional deep cleaning of the interior of your car can cost you up to $500 but if you do it yourself, you will realize that the process is inexpensive and straightforward. You need to invest in the right equipment and cleaning products to maintain your vehicle in its original state. These tips can help you maintain the resale value of your automobile.
