Build Cost
$190,000.00
What was the inspiration?
I wanted a square body but love all the amenities of the new trucks.
How long did it take you to build?
2 years
How long have you been building?
My entire life
Your future plans?
Sell the truck at Barrett Jackson and build one not as nice so I can daily drive it.
Vehicle history
Purchased a 2020 rolling chasis with engine, trans etc. The body was wrecked. I used the floor pan and firewall of the 2020 cab (so all the interior would fit and the body mounts were correct. I purchased two other crewcab trucks to use the cab but both were not good enough to use. I then purchased a 91 suburban and used it to build the cab. I then used a standard cab for the back wall and roof skin as we had to stretch the cab 8.5" to fit properly. I decided to stretch the rear doors to make it more like the newer trucks. Since it was a 2020 theme I went with the new mirrors and cab lights. Powdercoated the frame and suspension with Prismatic Powders cheater blue.

“K2020”

1991 Chevrolet K20

Owned by: Brian Rogers

Photos by: John Mumaw

When Brian Rogers set out to build his dream truck, he faced a dilemma many enthusiasts know well: he loved the timeless styling of the classic Chevy squarebody, but he also wanted the comforts, technology, and drivability of modern trucks. His solution? Create a one-of-a-kind fusion — a 1991 Chevrolet K20 blended with a 2020 Chevy platform.

The name says it all: K2020 — a perfect mix of old-school muscle and new-school refinement.

From Vision to Reality

This wasn’t a bolt-on build. Brian sourced five different donor trucks to bring his vision to life. Starting with a 2020 rolling chassis that still had the engine and transmission intact, he faced the challenge of merging old with new.

  • The 2020 cab floor pan and firewall were used so the modern interior and body mounts would align perfectly.

  • Multiple donor cabs were purchased, but only a ’91 Suburban cab proved worthy of rebuilding.

  • To achieve the right proportions, Brian used a standard cab’s back wall and roof skin, then stretched the cab 8.5 inches.

  • Even the rear doors were stretched, giving the truck the sleek proportions of modern crew cabs.

  • To complete the look, Brian added 2020 mirrors and cab lights, tying the theme together seamlessly.

Every piece of this build required custom fabrication, patience, and vision.

Engine & Drivetrain

Powering the K2020 is a 2020 Duramax L5P 6.6L V8 diesel, tuned for even more grunt.

  • Stealth 67 turbo

  • Wehrli Fab high-flow piping kit

  • Polished stainless Jamo exhaust

  • Polished driveshaft

The result is a truck that looks vintage on the outside but performs like a brand-new heavy-duty beast.

Chassis & Suspension

To make sure the ride quality matched the power, Brian upgraded the chassis with:

  • 4-inch Cognito Lift Kit

  • Fox 2.0 shocks (front & rear)

  • Powdercoated frame & suspension in Prismatic Powders “Cheater Blue”

  • Train horns with a 20-gallon tank

  • Amp Research power steps

This blend of utility and showmanship ensures the K2020 is as functional as it is eye-catching.

Wheels & Tires

Rolling stock sets the stance, and Brian went big:

  • 24×14 TIS wheels front and rear

  • Wrapped in 37×13.50R24 tires

The deep lip, aggressive offset, and towering sidewalls make a statement from every angle.

Body & Exterior Mods

Every inch of the K2020’s exterior has been touched, blending vintage lines with modern design:

  • Steel 4-inch cowl hood

  • 2020 firewall & floorpan

  • Cab stretched 8.5 inches, including reskinned roof

  • Extended rear doors for modern proportions

  • 2020-style mirrors & cab lights

  • Finished in a Grey and Blue two-tone, laid down by Railroad Customs in basecoat/clearcoat

The bodywork alone is a masterclass in metalwork and fabrication, creating a truck that truly doesn’t exist anywhere else.

Interior & Technology

Inside, the K2020 feels like a 2020 Chevy, thanks to the donor’s cab components:

  • 2020 dashboard, gauges, console, and steering wheel

  • Stock 2020 head unit integrated with Triton Audio amps and speakers

  • Recovered leather upholstery by Wrap It Up Interiors

  • 20% window tint for a subtle, modern look

It’s a surreal experience: sit inside, and you’re in a new Silverado. Step outside, and you’re staring at a squarebody legend.

Build Cost, Time & Teamwork

This masterpiece wasn’t a quick weekend project.

  • Build Cost: Over $190,000 invested

  • Timeframe: 2 years from start to finish

  • Assistance: Fabrication and assembly help from Greg Adams, Zach Adams, and Jordan Blackard

  • Paint & Body: Jacob Neuenschwander of Railroad Customs

  • Additional Contributions: Scorpion Coatings (bedliner), TIS Wheels, Mint Tint, Dailey’s Detailing, Jamo Exhaust

Future Plans

While Brian loves his K2020, his future vision is to sell the truck at Barrett-Jackson and build another — “not as nice, so I can daily drive it.”

Previous Builds

Brian isn’t new to ambitious projects. His past builds include “Stroked-N”, a 1948 Ford 8N tractor with a 7.3 Powerstroke, twin turbos, and nitrous — proof that his creativity and skills have always pushed boundaries.

Brian Rogers’ K2020 is more than just a build—it’s a blueprint for what’s possible when classic styling meets modern engineering. With squarebody trucks at an all-time high in popularity, this truck stands apart as a fully reimagined piece of automotive art. It’s equal parts showpiece, workhorse, and dream come true.
