In the Market for a Used Car? These Are 3 Types To Consider

June 2, 2023 By Gauge Magazine

Used CarShopping for a used car includes a plethora of options. You can choose between used cars, trucks, SUVs, and electric vehicles. You also get to decide between the three types of used cars in Royston which include value cars, certified pre-owned models, and fleet cars. All offer pros and cons making them good choices for drivers who want a car with different features and price points.

Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles

Some of the most desirable used cars are those labeled as certified pre-owned or CPO. These vehicles are late model years and have low mileage. They usually have the latest features, and they must pass a thorough inspection. If the vehicle needs any reconditioning, a certified mechanic does the repairs using genuine OEM parts.

By the time the vehicle hits the dealership lot, it’s almost as good as new. Many CPO cars come with extended warranty protection, a comprehensive vehicle history report, and 24/7 roadside assistance. You might also get low-interest financing if it’s available for the make and model. Because they are in good condition and have so many additional benefits, CPO cars usually have higher price tags than other used cars with more miles and more time on the road.

Value Cars

If a certified pre-owned vehicle is out of your price range, you can explore inventories of value cars. These cars tend to have useful features, but not the luxurious or high-tech features that add value to a vehicle. They also have more miles, so it’s a good idea to request a vehicle history report when purchasing one.

It’s best to pay cash for a low-cost car, because interest rates and financing take away the low cost part of the deal. Because of the age and condition, most value cars tend to need work. Because these older cars have already depreciated, they tend to hold their value for longer than new cars or certified pre-owned models.

Fleet Cars for Used Car

Usually fleet cars are late-model vehicles often in very good condition. The mileage varies based on the previous owner’s purpose. Fleet vehicles often come from large companies that give their employees cars to drive for work purposes. Fleet cars can come from government agencies like schools, building inspectors, and law enforcement agencies. Some fleet cars come from rental companies. Some of the best deals are demo cars. Prospective car buyers test drive these cars, so they usually have reasonable amounts of miles, and they’ve been taken care of by the dealership.

Because fleet and rental vehicles have not been owned by individuals, but by companies, they may not have the same care that used car buyers might expect. Before you spend your money on a fleet, demo, or rental car, take the time to read the vehicle history report and recognize that people who borrow cars often drive them harder than they would if they owned the car. Rental car vehicles can be great deals, but the mileage might surprise you.
