Tips for Maintaining Your Fuel Injectors

September 5, 2018 By Gauge Magazine

fuel injectorToday, almost every car is using a fuel injector in place of the carburetors. Fuel injectors are efficient. Their performance and accuracy are perfect. The fuel injectors transport fuel accurately to the combustion chamber and hence supporting the ignition process. That’s why you no longer have to wait for your engine to run for some time before starting your journey.  Fuel injectors are a vital part of a car’s engine. However, when the engine is running smoothly, they are easy to be forgotten. Replacing one is quite expensive, and no driver is willing to spend some cash on a situation that could be prevented in the first place.

Without saying much, I will continue and provide you with five ways on how you can maintain your car’s fuel injector.

1. Avoid low-quality fuel

Today, the market is filled with different gasoline brands. From a broader point of view, their presence is healthy for the economy mainly. First, they promote the business sector, and it’s a good thing. Also, they provide car owners with a wide array of options from where they can fuel. We both know that these brands offer different fuel blends. The sad thing is that there are those in the business who care less about your car’s engine. Low-quality fuel is a risk to the engine. Going for bad gasoline and adding additives isn’t healthy at all. You should know that low-quality fuel triggers the clogging of the vehicle’s fuel injector, affecting its performance and disrupting the fuel injection system. If you value your machine, it’s advisable to use high-quality gas. These top gas blends have detergents and which are vital as they prevent clogging of the fuel injector.

2. Keep it clean

Many platforms have stated that cleaning of the fuel injectors is critical. However, little has been told on how to properly clean your fuel injectors. From an expert’s point of view, cleaning of the injectors should be done at least once in a while. Many people are always asking when it’s the right time to do the cleaning.  For the rides that are used regularly, the cleaning should be scheduled at least after every 25000 miles. However, we both know that the build-up of debris is influenced by the type of gasoline used. Vehicles running on low-quality fuels are likely to have their fuel injectors clogged even before their mileage count hits 25000 miles. Therefore, on such instances, it’s advisable to do the cleaning immediately you realize a drop in the vehicle’s performance and fuel economy.

Cleaning the fuel injectors is a straightforward task. You can handle it, especially if you’re the DIY type of a person. First thing first, you should have a perfect cleaning kit. For a successful cleaning, it’s advisable to pick a cleaning fluid that has polyetheramine (PEA). This component helps dissolve the carbon deposits quickly. Locating the fuel injectors shouldn’t be a problem and is dependent on your car’s model. The cleaning can be done while the injector is still mounted in the engine. But, if the debris happens to be much, it’s advisable to remove the injector and clean using a particular machine designed especially for the job.

3. Don’t forget to use additives

As their name implies, additives are added to a fuel tank to help in boosting the car’s performance. Often, they are termed by many as a mechanic in a can’ because they offer many benefits to the engine. As said earlier, fuel injectors are prone to clog, and we both know how this can mess a car’s performance. Clogged injectors are likely to cause sluggish acceleration, hard-starting, and poor cold-engine performance. It’s therefore advisable to add some additives to the fuel tank. Most of these fuel brands have additives in them, and it’s a good thing. However, you should know that most of the low-quality fuels add cheap additives. Thus, it’s wise to add the right additive when using the low type of fuel. There are many ready additives out there. Some of them might be quite expensive but are a worthy investment to your car’s engine.

4. Replace fuel filters regularly

Fuel is prone to dust particles among other foreign agents. Most of the low-quality fuels hold a high amount of small particles. The small particles are a risk to the car’s engine, especially the fuel injector. They can cause significant damage. That’s where the fuel filters come to the rescue. As their name suggests, fuel filters block tiny dust particles from making their way into the car’s fuel system. Therefore, the fuel filters should be replaced on a regular basis to ensure that the filtering process is in check. Many people are always asking when it’s the right time to replace the filters. Replacing the filter is based on one’s locality. For example, if you live in a dusty environment, replacing the filter should be done frequently.

5. Park your car in the right manner

Many people out there assume that garages are meant to keep the cars away from the thieves. Yes, that is a good reason. But, it’s not the only one. Parking your car in the garage is healthy for both the engine and the body. First, the proper storage ensures that your vehicle rests at an even temperature.  Also, utilizing the garage ensures that your engine system is kept away from the dusty environment which can mess with the fuel injector. Therefore, it’s advisable to use a garage at all cost. However, we both know that not everyone owns a garage. That shouldn’t freak you out because there are many waterproof car covers and which can work effectively. Besides, there are public storage places in almost every street and where you can leave your car when not in use.

Car’s fuel injectors came in to replace the carburetors. Currently, most cars are using the fuel injectors. Fuel injectors perform a very crucial task of enabling the fuel combustion and hence the ignition. However, they are easily neglected, and this can mean a significant loss when they break down. In this article, I’ve provided you with the top five ways on how you can maintain your car’s fuel injector. Please read and understand each one of them for the sake of your precious vehicle.
