What Are the Main Types of Car Accidents?

March 6, 2023 By Gauge Magazine

Main Types of Car AccidentsHave you ever been in a car accident? Or thought you were going to be involved? Perhaps you’ve seen an accident happen and want to know what to do if it happens to you. You may want information on what types of car accidents there are and what the probable outcomes are.

Whether you want to do research for a fictional piece, need to recount an authentic experience, or want to be prepared in case of a crash, you’ve come to the right place.

Here’s our guide to the different types of car accidents.

Rear-End Collision

A rear-end collision is as it sounds; it involves a car from behind striking the rear part of another car. It results from a driver operating their vehicle at a higher speed than the car in front of them. It can also happen if the lead car brakes suddenly.

Besides, what is the statute of limitations for a rear-end collision? Well, most states have the limit set at two to four years from the time of the accident. If a suit is not filed within that window, the chance to do so expires and the rear car driver may no longer be held responsible.

Head-on Collision

A head-on collision is one of the most dangerous and deadly car accidents. It occurs when two cars traveling in opposite directions collide either head-on into each other or off-center from either side.

This collision is hazardous because the cars are approaching each other at speed, and the occupants can experience a significant force upon impact. In some cases, one or both vehicles may become airborne, leading to further car accident injuries.

Side-Impact Collision

This type of car accident happens when a car traveling intersects and crashes into the side of another car. In these instances, one car moves in and out of traffic or into a busy intersection. It struck a vehicle on the side that did not have the right of way.

Single-Car Accident

A single-car accident is a car accident in which a vehicle is the only vehicle involved in a single incident, with no other cars or objects involved. In most cases, a single-car accident will occur when a vehicle runs off the road and crashes into an inanimate object such as a tree, lamp post, or curb. Also, common causes of car accidents related to this are when a driver is distracted, has health issues, or is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Know the Different Types of Car Accidents

As a driver, it is essential to pay attention to potential hazards on the roadway. Be aware of the risks of the main types of car accidents to protect yourself and your passengers. Take the safe route and enroll in a driver’s education course to build your knowledge and skill set.
